The project Physics facing challenges of XXI century is funded in part by the EU under the Human Capital Operational Programme 2007 – 2013, Priority axis IV. Tertiary education and science, measure 4.1 strengthening and development of didactic potential of universities and increasing the number of graduates from faculties of key importance for knowledge-based economy, sub-measure 4.1.1 Strengthening and development of didactic potential of universities.

The aim of the project, implemented in the years 2009-2014, is to improve the development potential of the University of Warsaw by increasing the educational offer of the Faculty of Physics and adjusting it to the requirements of the contemporary labor market and a knowledge-based economy. The activities of the project comprise in particular:

  • Preparation and implementation of the interdisciplinary undergraduate program ‘Applications of physics in biology and medicine’
    Five courses have been proposed:

    1. Molecular biophysics
    2. Molecular designing and bioinformatics
    3. Medical physics
    4. Neuroinformatics
    5. Optometry
  • organization of a ‘Radiation protection and radiometry in
    medicine’
    course,
  • introducing English classes at the Faculty of Physics,
  • improving competences of academics by organization of study visits and foreign traineeships.

The agreement between The National Center for Research and Development and University of Warsaw was annexed on 15th November 2013 to extend the Project lifetime until the end of June 2015.

The total value of the Project after changes: 9 587 610,40PLN.
